Eighth Grade

Eighth grade students study the industrial revolution, modern history, and anatomy, integrating complex academic subjects with artistic and practical activities to prepare for their transition to high school.

Spanish: vocabulary, past and future tenses, grammar, culture
Handwork: advanced sewing machine skills, garment construction
Visual Arts: drawing, art elective option
Music: choir, string orchestra
Movement: competitive games, cooperative activities, and small-sided games involving manipulative skill development and team play, further development of skills needed for formal sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball, football), combination games, sportsmanship, warm-up and fitness; participation on the school soccer, volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and flag football teams.
Community Class: monthly community service; forming a respectful classroom, feelings and empathy, communication styles, handling conflict, teamwork and collaboration, identity and differences, bias and stereotypes, forms of bullying and cyberbullying, responsible Internet usage.
Technology: journalism, typing, digital art and movie making, electronics/coding, internet safety
