Job Title: Summer Camp Assistant, Hourly Employee
Duration: Six summer weeks
Work Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday through Friday
Areas of Responsibility:
The Summer Camp Assistant has a role that supports the Lead Camp Teacher in fostering a nurturing and engaging environment. Camp Assistants should be able to work in an outdoor environment for long periods of time. He/she must have the ability to lift and carry equipment up to 35 pounds. (cooler, program equipment, etc), have the ability to observe and assess camper safety in all situations, and maintain high energy levels and enthusiasm for prolonged periods throughout the day. All staff members must be able to complete orientation and training, and complete a background check prior to the start of camp. The camp assistant should seek to understand the campers he/she works with and use the uniqueness of the camp setting and program to help fulfill the Summer at Waldorf mission which states: Our mission is to provide children with a summer camp experience that celebrates childhood, nature, artistic expression, and friendship.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Assist in implementing the summer program activities, including gathering materials and setting up activity spaces.
- Supervision of campers and activities at all times.
- Providing emotional support and encouragement to campers.
- Work as part of a team.
- Assist in tidying up after activities.
- Be familiar with the special needs, medical conditions, dietary concerns, etc and act according to directions provided by the Camp Coordinator/parent or guardian.
- Be familiar with the Camp Code of Conduct and procedures for reporting behavioral-related incidents.
- Be a positive role model to campers and available to them at all times.
- Ensure that safety standards are maintained at all times
- Report any accidents/incidents to the Camp Counselor (incident reports)
- Other duties as required
Required meeting attendance:
Meeting times to be announced at beginning of each summer
- One planning meeting in advance of camp schedule
- Weekly meetings with Camp Coordinator and other counselors

Background required:
Must be at least 16 years of age
Experience in working with children
Prior experience in outdoor education, informal education, or classroom settings.
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates are a plus, but not required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be creative and energetic
Remuneration:
Wage/Salary: $20/hour
